Meet 1SG (R) Wayne Cogdill – Leader of Champions

Since arriving at Leavenworth in June 2010, 1SG (R) Wayne Cogdill has transformed the JROTC Raider Team and Pioneer Guard Drill Team into nationally recognized powerhouses.
Under his leadership, these teams have grown from humble beginnings to the Raiders becoming six-time national champions—a testament to his relentless drive, strategic mindset, and unwavering belief in his students.

1SG Cogdill is more than a coach—he’s a mentor, motivator, and tireless advocate for the young men and women he leads. He challenges his cadets to push past their limits, to refuse to settle for less than their best, and to carry the lessons of discipline, teamwork, and resilience into every part of their lives. His philosophy is simple yet profound: believe in the kids, and teach them to believe in themselves.​
Whether on the competition field, in the classroom, or in the community, his impact reaches far beyond trophies. He is shaping confident, capable leaders who will make a difference not just in Leavenworth, but in the world. When you meet 1SG Cogdill, you meet a leader who is, as he puts it, “fired up”—and his energy is contagious.
